Career transition coaching provides support for individuals caught up in restructuring and down-sizing programmes.  The three elements of career transition coaching are:

  • identifying future direction
  • cv preparation
  • interview support

Career transition coaching is provided through a series of 1:1 coaching sessions over a period designed to meet the needs of the individual.  Typically, this might be four sessions over a six week period.

overcoming anxiety

Redundancy can be a traumatic experience - especially for individuals who have been in the same workplace for many years.  Anxiety about personal finances and what the future might hold are examples of the most obvious and immediate problems likely to be experienced.

Equally challenging is the loss of identity and purpose associated with redundancy.  As individuals, we frequently define ourselves by what we do.  When this is taken away we may question our self worth - who we are and what our life stands for.

regaining a sense of purpose

Redundancy is a time for reassessment, providing individuals with the opportunity to work out:

  • what is important to them
  • what they are good at
  • what they really want to do
  • a personal development plan

It's a time to regain a sense of purpose and maintain self-esteem.  After all, in the current economic climate many good people are being made redundant.

Career transition coaching is good practice. Business Link encourages employers to find ways of helping employees come to terms with their situation during redundancy.

Career transition coaching is tax deductable. The Inland Revenue offers the following guidance on this; they call it outplacement counselling.

Self-discovery - gain insights into preferences and personality through tools such as Myers-Briggs or 16pf.  Identify most appropriate job families.  Keep active, consider devoting some time to voluntary work and prepare a personal development plan.

cv preparation

Identify personal strengths and past successes.  We offer suggestions for good practice and layout.

interview support

Development of a personal narrative and role play to rehearse delivery.  Practice responding to typical interview questions.  Support and encouragement to build confidence.
