The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator ® (MBTI ®) is a multiple-choice personality questionnaire that looks at how a person perceives the world and how they prefer to interact with others.
The MBTI helps people improve their working and personal relationships in a positive and constructive way.
The MBTI can be used to help:
The Myers-Briggs (MBTI) can be taken online with personal feedback provided by a qualified practitioner.
MBTI Step I is based around four dimensions of personality while the MBTI Step II looks at differences not only between but within types.
The MBTI Step 1 questionnaire describes an individual's personality preferences, representing these in four dimensions:

or |
Introversion |
|
Prefers to draw energy from the outer world of activity, people and things. |
Prefers to draw energy from the inner world of reflections, feelings and ideas. |
|
Sensing |
or |
Intuition |
|
Prefers to focus on information gained from the five senses and on practical applications. |
Prefers to focus on patterns, connections and possible meanings. |
|
Thinking |
or |
Feeling |
|
Prefers to base decisions on logic and objective analysis of cause and effect. |
Prefers to base decisions on a valuing process, considering what is important to people. |
|
Judging |
or |
Perceiving |
|
Likes a planned, organised approach to life, and prefers to have things decided. |
Likes a flexible, spontaneous approach and prefers to keep options open. |
The various combinations of these preferences result in 16 personality types, each associated with a unique set of behaviours and values.
The MBTI Step II builds on the insights provided by Step I, introducing a unique and complex understanding of personality. It achieves this by breaking down each dimension of the Step I types into five facets, giving individuals a more detailed appreciation of their type. This approach can highlight how people of the same Step I type can be different, and explore similarities between people with contrasting Step I preferences.
The MBTI Step II is particularly effective when used in leadership development and executive coaching.
